New for 2019: Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle Music with Rachel Nesvig
Long time Vista Viking Festival favorite, Highland Way returns! This local Celtic band Plays everything from High Energy Festivals to Performing Arts Theaters, from Scotland to California. World class performers, Highland Way will have the crowd singing along, and dancing like no one is watching.
“Awesome, Awesome, and ... did I say Awesome?” David Palmatier, Chairman, Friends of Oceanside Parks.
“Highland Way has become San Diego’s best Celtic group” Dick Jay, president, San Diego Folk Heritage.
Storming the Loki Stage - Folk Metal band The Dread Crew of Oddwood make a triumphant return, with their Heavy Mahogany sound. Loud and relentless. With infectious rhythms, and raucous lyrics. They banded together at San Diego Comic-Con over a decade ago. Since then, this San Diego Pirate-Crew has produced four albums, and played at festivals and concerts all over the country. Turning Pirate Rock up to 11!
“Armed with a variety of instruments including a double bass, accordion and whistle, they really threw the jigs around. Bouncing, dancing and skipping from the very start, they had the crowd in the palm of their hand…I don’t recall one moment where they paused to take breath from the moment they ran on, to the time the final chords” The Moshville Times
Rock ‘n’ roll should be able to resound anywhere.
No matter the setting, its rhythms, riffs, and roar should encourage you to raise your hands or preferably a glass (if of age!) in celebration. Cockswain maintain this tradition every time they hit the stage or enter the studio.
The Phoenix sextet — Neil [vocals, acoustic guitar], Mandy [fiddle], Brian [drums], Justin [bass], Evan [lead guitar], and Wake [banjo] — bottles uplifting and spirited messages within sun-burnt Celtic rock sealed by punk energy and desert heat. This approach quietly transformed the group from a local Arizona favorite at countless watering holes to a national Irish festival standout and touring force with gigs alongside everyone from Skinny Lister to The Young Dubliners under their collective belt.
Internationally acclaimed The Fire is a high energy pure-drop Scottish music band, with world class fiddling, virtuosic bag-piping with lively accompaniment on guitar, bodhran, and tin-whistle. These charismatic performers will leave you on your feet with your hands together.
"A masterful blend of subtle fiddling and hard-driving piping" - Kithfolk Roots Music Magazine
Southern CA Damekor
The Damekor (Norwegian for “Women’s Choir”) is a Scandinavian Women's Chorus A-cappella. With a bit of flute, cello, and harp, on occasion. Featuring music related to Scandinavia and music from many countries the Vikings visited on their "World Tour."
I so enjoyed your performance at Daughters of Norway Convention, San Francisco. Thank you for sharing your many talents with all of us! Debbie Dustin Dodd.
Twisted Heart Puppetworks is Vista's own theatrical puppetry troupe operated by Vista native Tania Yager. They bring with them whimsical puppet theater that merges visual art and legends in order to bring fantasy to life. Gaining inspiration from myths and folklore, this curious group is full of play and spectacle! They are excited to bring their unique brand of mischief to the Viking Festival for the 1st time!
The Bawdy Juggler commands the Loki Stage. He does so with sly charm, and a wicked wit, to make the god of mischief proud. His show has balls. Because he's a juggler...
